The first step toward creating an efficient office team is to establish a common goal and exchange ideas for achieving this goal. Without a shared sense of purpose, there is no chance to develop a team atmosphere. Following the declaration of a common goal, the team leader must help clarify the various team roles. Every individual in the office should know what is expected both on a day-to-day basis and in context of the larger picture. The more team members become familiar with their role, the more they can effectively assist other team members. Finally, office teams must learn to trust one another and open effective lines of communication. When criticism is necessary, it should be delivered in a constructive manner. Only when team members trust one another and communicate effectively can the common goal be achieved.
